A multidisciplinary practice grounded in material, image, and lived experience
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Scarlet Lili Thomas is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice moves between making, writing, and curatorial thinking. Working across photography, print, drawing, and mixed media, her work is grounded in close attention to materials, domestic spaces, and the emotional life of images.

While her earlier work focused on family, memory, and the home, her practice has increasingly shifted toward writing and critical reflection as a primary mode of engagement. This move is not a departure from making, but an extension of it — informed by the tactile knowledge of working with materials, the body, and the hand.

Through both artworks and texts, Thomas explores domesticity, femininity, and the everyday as sites of meaning, connection, and autonomy. Her approach values slowness, observation, and embodied understanding, treating art as a way of thinking, feeling, and staying in relation to the world.

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”
— Thomas Merton, No Man is an Island (1955)
