ABOUT
Between criticism, creativity, and lived experience
ABOUT LUMINOSA
LUMINOSA is an evolving platform for writing and image-making that explores art, film, exhibitions, and visual culture.

Through exhibition reviews, critical reflections, and photographic documentation, LUMINOSA approaches creative work with attentiveness — interested in how images, spaces, and objects hold emotional and cultural meaning.

The project moves between critique and personal response, treating art not as something distant or fixed, but as something lived, felt, and encountered.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Scarlet Lili Thomas is a Melbourne-based writer, artist, and photographer working across art and film. Born in New Zealand, her practice is informed by a deep engagement with visual culture, with particular interest in domesticity, memory, the female experience, and the emotional resonance of images.

From an early age, art offered a way of understanding and relating to the world — a space for attention, feeling, and meaning-making. While her practice began through making, it has increasingly shifted towards writing as a primary mode of expression. Through criticism and reflection, she finds language allows her to articulate what images and films stir internally — experiences felt viscerally, emerging from the body as much as from thought.

Alongside her creative practice, she writes critically about exhibitions and film, combining close observation with reflective analysis. Film remains central to her work, informing both her visual sensibility and her approach to narrative, atmosphere, and emotional pacing.

LUMINOSA functions as both an archive and an extension of this ongoing practice.
